A Maze of Sin & Grace - My Life in Pictures
I am publishing photographs of my life in random order. Perhaps I may have the time to add explanations of each picture. The photographs range widely. This is not so much an exercise in narcissism as it is a revelation of God's grace toward me. He has been exceedingly patient. Mea maxima culpa!
Circa 1941: Houston, Texas. Sweet innocent Tony! Before my ego and the taint of original sin kicked in! And then it was a very bumping ride!
Circa 1955: Austin, Texas, outside Canterbury House. I was a student at the University of Texas.
Circa 1958: West Park, New York, at Holy Cross Monastery. I was operating an amateur radio station (K2OFB) to keep in contact with our mission station in Bolahun, Liberia.
Circa 1962: Outside Kingston, New York. Having left the monastery, I was venturing "outside the walls."
Circa 1963: Pleasant Valley, New York. Ooops, I am holding my first child, a son, Christopher Michael.
Circa 1965: Outside Kingston, New York. Holding my son and a new daughter, Lisa Katherine.
Circa 1959: Kingston, New York. Visiting a family while still wearing a monk's habit at Holy Cross.
Circa 1991: Austin, Texas. With a former Anglican nun, Sister Mary Virginia of the Community of the Holy Spirit, New York City, (nee Elizabeth Malone Osborn of Dallas, Texas), with whom I formed a relationship to help run a street ministry in downtown Austin. She had "other ideas." It didn't last, the relationship, that is!
Circa 1992: Keene, New Hampshire. Visiting in a graveyard while studying Waldorf education.
Circa 1993: Spring Valley, New York. While a co-worker at the Fellowship Community, an initiative within the Anthroposophical Society, which included a publishing house where I served as a copy editor.
Circa 2002: Laredo, Texas. While I was a member of the staff of Holding Institute, an alternative education program.
Circa 1953: Houston, Texas. I was driving a new Ford, wearing a summer tuxedo, heading for a "hot" date near the time of graduation from Mirabeau B. Lamar High School.
Circa 1943: Houston, Texas. Wearing a patriotic uniform during World War II.
Circa 1958: Houston, Texas. Visiting with the Rev. Ralph Miller while I was home before profession at Holy Cross Monastery.
Circa 1986: Cotulla, Texas. Visiting with a close friend, Ruth Maltsburger. Yes, I did grow a beard occasionally.
Circa 1992: Houston, Texas. With my two daughters, Lisa Katherine, grandson Eric, and Ann-Monique at the time of my father's funeral.
Circa 1980: Wimberley, Texas. A happier time, posing with Edwin Sharpe, Sr., a family cousin; my father; and son, Christopher, shortly before his tragic death while driving alone in his truck on Ranch Road 12.
Circa 1992: En route Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. On a holiday to Canada's maritime province.
Circa 2000: Austin, Texas. With two young helpers in my garden. We were building a "raised bed" planter!
Circa 1992: Spring Valley, New York. Gardening alone! No fun! What about all those weeds?
Circa 1985: Austin, Texas. With Rev. Reinhard Wuensche Sr., a Lutheran pastor; Bob Conklin, an old college friend; and Martha Hummel, a friend from Wimberley; the three board members of Angels House, the soup kitchen and street ministry, I operated on Austin's near east side.
